HEIGHTS of Excellence Winner Q2 2018
Many Lifelines customers know Haley Bernhardt, BA, R. EEG T., clinical applications specialist. Her cheerful voice is heard on the phone helping customers to troubleshoot technical issues, conduct training sessions, and test software. Haley is the winner of the HEIGHTS award for consistently demonstrating the Lifelines values.
Nominated by her peers, Haley was noted for her ability to drop everything to help customers as well as her team members. Says one of her nominators, “She embodies teamwork, and provides the best customer service with a smile on her face, and offers to help everyone who seems to need it. She is amazing!”
Haley’s path to neurodiagnostics started with a college degree in apparel merchandising and design. Her career journey had its roots in wanting to help others while using her creativity. “I was torn between a career in healthcare, or in fashion, because I love both,” she says.
After college, Haley worked in retail as a manager in a clothing store and knew it was not where she wanted to stay forever. It was a chance meeting with one of her mother’s friends at a local festival that changed Haley’s course. “I had no idea what EEG was all about,” says Haley. “My mom’s friend was so passionate about it and explained it only took two years to complete the training.” Before long, Haley enrolled in the Lincoln Land Community College/St. John’s Hospital EEG program in Springfield, IL.
That friend was Mary Anne Griffin, R. EEG/EP T., and COO of Lifelines. Mary Anne kept in touch with Haley as she began working at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL in the EEG lab and the EMU. “It is so gratifying to know you’ve not only helped someone find a career they love, but also to fill a critical need for patients.”
As Lifelines grew, Mary Anne recruited Haley to join the team. While she enjoyed working in the hospital and with patients, Haley knew this new adventure would still keep her helping patients – by educating her fellow EEG techs and training them to use the Lifelines EEG solutions.
When Haley is not helping customers, she collaborates with the support team to test new versions of software, readies EEG equipment for trade shows, and even supports the Lifelines EEG Research team in conducting studies. “I really enjoy the patients, and knowing I am playing a role in helping them progress is really satisfying,” says Haley.
When she is not at work, Haley loves to play volleyball, darts, and do just about anything outside, from camping to fishing and hiking. She and her husband Jared love to travel and spend time with Ollie, their 110-pound German shepherd.
